The Brooklyn Nets have set a sky-high asking price for Kevin Durant, which isn’t all too surprising. It will be difficult for teams to build a package compelling enough for the Nets to even engage in trade talks, but the Memphis Grizzlies can certainly get close.
Brooklyn wants All-Star caliber players or high-upside young guys with draft compensations included. The Grizzlies check virtually all of those boxes with this deal.
Desmond Bane is likely viewed as the centerpiece. He is entering Year 3 and is already an elite 3-and-D player knocking on the door of being an All-Star. Bane had the highest win share on the roster last season.
Dillon Brooks, Steven Adams and Danny Green are all on expiring contracts, giving the Nets a chance to reset their books for the future. Green is included to match salary as he is likely going to be sidelined for the season and his restriction on being traded again expires on August 23rd.
