Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
Bojan Bogdanovic is a quality NBA player. He’s an elite floor-spacer who can also create his own shot when his number is called. With that said, he’s probably not worth an unprotected first-round pick on his own.
There are two main reasons for that. One is his age. At 33, Bogey is probably nearing the end of his rope. The other is his expiring contract.
To a rebuilding team, his short-term pact has value. On the other hand, to a contender, he’s a rental. In a world where the Suns trade an unprotected first for him and catastrophe strikes, they’ll suffer tremendously if their lottery pick falls to the Jazz and Bogdanovic walks in free agency.
Still, that’s exceedingly unlikely. For that reason, so is the Suns’ pick landing in the lottery. Therefore, the Jazz shouldn’t be put off by the lottery protections.
