Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
Many fans assume that the Nets won’t move Durant unless they get win-now help in return. They’re very low on their own draft capital, so a longer-term rebuild may not be an option.
With that said, there are exceptions to every rule – and Josh Giddey with six unprotected first-round picks ought to be an exception.
Some of these picks could be highly valuable, too. Utah’s 2024 selection could land anywhere – and so could Houston’s. The Clippers are too old to be assured to land outside the lottery in 2026, and the Nuggets could end up there in 2027.
If the logic is that the Nets shouldn’t rebuild through the draft because they don’t have their own picks, this deal nullifies that logic. It gives the Nets ample opportunities to land a cornerstone.
