How This Deal Impacts Utah Jazz
It has been reported that the Utah Jazz are content heading into training camp and the regular season with Donovan Mitchell on the roster, but that is hard to imagine.
Yes, Mitchell has three guaranteed seasons remaining on his contract, but they are a franchise heading toward a rebuild. The longer he is on the roster, the longer it will be until they can fully embrace rebuilding.
Trading Mitchell sooner than later is best for the franchise. This deal with the Charlotte Hornets is built in a similar mold to what Utah received from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Rudy Gobert.
The tank would be on for the Jazz. Clearing long-term cap space is accomplished in this deal as each player is either on an expiring deal or rookie contract. Kelly Oubre Jr. and Mason Plumlee could be flipped later on for more assets as well.

James Bouknight was selected 11th overall and played the fewest minutes of any lottery pick from last season. No one knows what he can really bring to the table, which also goes for Kai Jones. Jones was selected 19th overall but played the fewest minutes of any first-round pick.
Utah could have two solid building blocks with them on the roster along with Jarred Vanderbilt, Walker Kessler and Leandro Bolmaro, who were acquired from the Timberwolves.

More potential building blocks and draft capital would be on the way as Utah will be trying to trade the other veterans on the roster after completing a deal centered around Mitchell.
