Brooklyn Nets Receive: F/C Davis Bertans, C Dwight Powell, G/F Josh Green, 2025 lottery-protected first-round pick
Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Kyrie Irving
In the 2022 postseason, Jalen Brunson provided a perfect secondary scorer to take some pressure off of Luka Doncic’s shoulders.
By consistently creating good looks for himself and knocking them down, the Villanova product was able to draw defensive attention away from Doncic and capitalize whenever the opponent loaded up on the Slovenian point guard too much.
While the Mavericks will add a healthy Tim Hardaway Jr. back to the mix, who’s an offensive force in his own right, they didn’t acquire anyone who can create his own offense like Brunson was doing towards the end of last year.
Without another reliable ball-handler rostered, Doncic will likely feel the full brunt of every opposing defense next year unless Spencer Dinwiddie or Jaden Hardy can fill in Brunson’s shoes.
LATEST NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Updates On Kyrie Irving, Dallas Mavericks & Brooklyn Nets
Rather than gamble that they’ll be able to replace Brunson’s production with in-house talent, the Dallas Mavericks should look to swing a trade to not only replicate his talents but improve upon them even.
There are not many players that can consistently create offense for themselves at the level of efficiency that JB displayed last postseason, but there is one standout player available in that regard.
