Nets’ Insane Kevin Durant Trade Asking Price For Celtics

Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics, NBA Trade Rumors

When two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant requested a trade from the Brooklyn Nets, they made it clear that they expected a massive haul in return for him.

Even after he gave the team an ultimatum that it is either him or general manager Sean Marks and head coach Steve Nash that stays, owner Joe Tsai remained steadfast in the stance of getting as much as possible in return for him.

While that ultimatum will certainly complicate things, as the Nets will lose some leverage, they will not just give Durant away. He remains one of the best players in the NBA and has four guaranteed years remaining on his contract. They will negotiate a price based on that and look to maximize their return.

One of the teams that they have discussed a Durant trade with to some degree is the Boston Celtics. When those discussions were held and how far along they actually got has been up for debate, but the one thing that is for sure is that Boston and Brooklyn were in touch with each other.

There has been plenty of discussion about just how much the Nets are asking for in return for Durant. A report surfaced that they sent a Minnesota Timberwolves a proposal asking for Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and four draft picks in return for Durant.

That was a deal that Minnesota obviously turned down. They turned their attention instead to the Utah Jazz as they acquired Rudy Gobert for a package of five players and four first-round picks.

Not slowed by being turned down, the Nets made another eye-popping offer to the Celtics, according to the Boston Globe.

In their initial trade conversation, the Nets reportedly asked the Celtics to trade both Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum in a deal for Durant. Boston was obviously not interested in trading both Brown and Tatum for Durant.

It doesn’t sound like things got much further when Brooklyn asked for a package of Brown, Marcus Smart, other role players and draft picks. Boston reportedly made it clear they weren’t willing to meet that sort of asking price for Durant.

A source says there has not been any real traction on a trade to this point.

It should come as no surprise that Boston turned down that offer. Trading away two All-Star caliber players that are going to be 24 and 26 years old during the season is a non-starter. There likely isn’t a player in the NBA that the Celtics would be willing to part ways with both of their starting wings for.

While Boston has emerged as a preferred landing spot for Durant, the Nets are not going to give them a discount. If anything, they could ask for more from their division rivals than they would from a team such as the New Orleans Pelicans, who they would see only twice in the regular season and NBA Finals should they advance that far.
