The debate about the greatest basketball player in the world does not have a clear answer. You can ask 10 different people, and all 10 may have a different opinion. But, one player who is squarely in the conversation right now is NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Antetoukounmpo and the Bucks suffered an early exit from the 2022 NBA Postseason, losing in the second round to the Boston Celtics. That ended their quest to defend their 2021 title, but he has already been putting in the work this offseason to come back stronger, playing with the Greece National Team.

Just as he has accomplished with the Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo is attempting to put Greece on the map when it comes to international competition. With him on the roster, they have a chance to hang with any country in the world as he is as dominant as anyone on the basketball court.

The two-time NBA MVP is one of the few players in the world that can stake a claim to being the best, but who does he believe is the world’s best player? In his opinion, it is Los Angeles Lakers star, LeBron James.

“It’s interesting to me how LeBron is still one of the best shapes in his life and being the best player in the world and still being in year 18,” Antetokounmpo said. “Like, that’s really interesting. I want to know how he does that.

“He’s been consistent for 18 years. He’s always there. He’s always showing up. That’s unbelievable.

“He obviously gets credit, but I think we’ve got to give him more credit. Doing it for 18 years guys, that’s hard.”

LeBron James is entering his 20th season in the NBA and has shown no signs of slowing down. The only sign that Father Time is catching up to him is that James has battled nagging injuries in recent seasons. However, when he is on the court, he continues to dominate.

Last season in 56 games, James averaged 30.3 points per game. It was the most points he has averaged per game since the 2007-08 season when he led the league and averaged 30 points per game. The 31.4 points per game he averaged during the 2005-06 campaign, which was his third season in the NBA, was the only season he scored more than last season.

The lengths that LeBron goes to ensure that his body remains in great shape are well documented. He spends $1.5 million per year to keep in top shape. It is something Antetokounmpo hopes that he can replicate.

“And hopefully, hopefully I can be there. Hopefully I can do this for 18 years, 20 years. That’s the goal.

“You gotta spend 1.5 million dollars on your body? I don’t know if I can do that. I’m too cheap for that. No, I’m joking. It’s crazy to me, man. He’s been so consistent. It’s fun to watch. It’s definitely fun to watch.”

Entering Year 10 of his career, there are plenty of people that would praise Giannis as much as he does LeBron James. In a few years, there will be an up-and-coming player speaking as highly about Antetokounmpo hoping to reach his level just as he has done with James.
