The San Antonio Spurs and LA Clippers may be far apart now, but it wasn’t always that.
Through the 2010s, both of these teams were regularly in the running for an NBA championship. The Spurs reached the top of that mountain in 2012-13. The Clippers, by contrast, have still yet to see it.
At least they’re closer than they used to be. Through the 1990s and early 2000s, the Clippers were typically a laughing stock.
Year in and year out, they found themselves near the bottom of the NBA standings. The Spurs, on the other hand, were generally near the top.

The tables have officially turned. The Spurs, for the first time since the mid-90s, will be one of the worst teams in the NBA next year. They should be trading useful veterans like Poeltl for future-focused assets.
