Why The Orlando Magic Do The Deal

The Orlando Magic were one of the worst teams in the NBA last season. With that said, record can be deceiving.

There is talent here. Franz Wagner was a pleasant surprise as a rookie in 2021-22. Jalen Suggs, by contrast, was a letdown, but he should still be afforded a longer grace period. Luckily, Cole Anthony had a breakout year that might allow the Magic to give him one.

Most significantly, the Magic added Paolo Banchero in the 2021 draft. Like Fultz, he was the first overall pick. If Orlando have enough faith in the decision they made, couldn’t they cut the rebuild off prematurely?

After all, they have two cornerstones in Banchero and Wagner. Granted, Banchero hasn’t played an NBA game yet, but if the Magic trust their projections, he’ll be a player to build around.
