There’s another rule in the NBA: Typically, if a player doesn’t flash star potential in his first few seasons, he doesn’t have it.
It’s a rule both Jonathan Isaac and Markelle Fultz will be hoping isn’t enforced too rigidly.
After all, both entered the NBA with unquestioned star potential. After all, they were both lottery picks. In fact, Fultz was selected with the number one pick.
Unfortunately, neither has lived up to the billing. Injuries have been each’s man barrier – particularly Isaac, who can’t seem to stay healthy for even half a season. Meanwhile, Fultz has begun to round into a quality NBA player, but stardom remains elusive.

That doesn’t mean it won’t come. Most NBA players may follow a similar developmental curve, but some stray from that linear path.
Can the Jazz afford to gamble that one (or both) of Fultz and Isaac will be one of those players?
