Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
By all appearances, the Brooklyn Nets are looking to move on from Irving. If that’s true, this trade benefits them automatically in that it accomplishes that goal.
Of course, this is not simply a case of addition by subtraction. This trade should maximize the fit between the remaining players on this roster.
Specifically, it’s about accommodating Ben Simmons. As a non-shooting lead ball-handler, he’ll benefit tremendously from having a stretch big like Vucevic on the roster. Granted, Vooch had a down year from deep last year, but even his willingness to let it fly will open up driving and passing lanes for the former number one pick.
On the other hand, Ball is the type of player that can fit alongside anyone. His 3-and-D skillset complements anybody, as does his passing vision. He’s not as talented as Irving, but he’s more scaleable.
