Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
Realistically, Anthony Davis is at a crossroads in his career. How he performs in 2022-23 may set our expectations for him moving forward.
At 29, Davis isn’t old. With that said, bigs have a way of aging rapidly in the NBA. When they have a history of injury concerns, that holds especially true.
If Davis bounces back in 2022-23, he’ll move himself back into MVP conversations. If he doesn’t, even the most optimistic fans will begin to write him off. In other words, this is a gamble for the Bulls.
It’s also one worth taking. If it pans out, they’ll be adding desperately needed interior defense. When at 100%, Davis is one of the best rim protectors in the NBA. By contrast, last year’s starter Nikola Vucevic struggles on that end of the floor.
