Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
In a hypothetical world where the Chicago Bulls did this deal, they probably wouldn’t be done making changes.
Hanging onto DeMar DeRozan doesn’t make sense in the context of this trade. Neither does keeping Nikola Vucevic. If the Bulls made this trade, they’d have to be triggering a full-blown rebuild. Does this deal do enough for their future?
Your answer to that question will depend on what you see in Jonathan Kuminga. For our money, he looks like the type of long, athletic two-way wing that’s come to dominate the NBA. Kuminga is still raw, but his ceiling is likely unlimited.
Meanwhile, the Bulls may look to move Wiggins in a separate transaction. At 27, he could fit the window of a quick rebuild, but if the Bulls wanted to seriously focus on the future, they’d move him for a first-round pick or two elsewhere.
