Why The Memphis Grizzlies Do The Deal
We alluded to the Grizzlies seeking Turner out as a Jackson Jr. replacement. On a short-term basis, that makes sense but imagine the two together.
That’s the ultimate vision for Memphis here. Turner’s ability to defend the rim would allow Jackson Jr to roam as a free safety and thrive as a weakside shot blocker. Together, they could make this Grizzlies defense one of the best in the NBA.
Of course, the pairing is viable on offense as well. Following this deal, the Grizzlies would have five-out spacing with both Turner and Jackson Jr. on the floor. That’s especially frightening when you consider they roster Ja Morant. He’d be absolutely unstoppable with such wide-open driving lanes.
Opposing bigs would have to pick their poison. Should they pack the paint to contain Morant, leaving a career 34.9% three-point shooter open beyond the arc in Turner? Or, do they stay with their man, inviting Morant to throw down an electrifying dunk?
