Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
You may have expected to see this article send Jamal Murray Utah’s way. Respectfully, we’ll pass.
After all, if the Jazz were interested in Murray, wouldn’t they just keep Mitchell? Each is 25, and they play very similarly. The Nuggets may trade Murray and a pick to the Jazz for Mitchell – it just feels pointless for both sides.
By that logic, Porter Jr., a first-round pick, and two swaps feel more sensible on both ends. The Jazz are presumably interested in bottoming out ahead of the 2023 Draft. Porter Jr. helps them do so. As talented as he is, he’s less likely to drag them to wins than Murray is.
With that said, this is not a no-brainer for the Jazz. If they’re understandably concerned about Porter Jr.’s medical history, they’ll pass on this deal.

On the other hand, if they like his potential enough to overlook those concerns, they may be interested.
Should the Nuggets return that interest in this deal?
