Full Early Favorites To Win 2022-23 NBA MVP Award

NBA MVP Race
NBA Analysis Network

The race for the 2021-22 MVP in the NBA was what many fans thought would be a hotly contested race. Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets ended up taking home the hardware as he won the award for the second consecutive season in what ended up not being as close as many people thought it would be.

Jokic received 65 out of 100 possible first-place votes, receiving 875 out of a maximum of 1,000 points. Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers finished second, getting 26 first-place votes and 706 points. The last finalist was Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, who received nine first-place votes and 595 points.

Fifth place on that list was Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks. Had Doncic not gotten off to such a slow start, when he was injured and landed in the league’s health and safety protocols, he likely would have factored into the standings as one of the finalists.

His statistics were certainly MVP caliber and he has been touted as an eventual NBA MVP since breaking into the league. Will this season be the year that it finally happens? According to the MVP odds on PointsBet via RotoWire, Doncic is the favorite right now to win the 2022-23 MVP award.

Luka Doncic is currently listed at +450, ahead of Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is tied for second with +600. Embiid is determined to finally get over the hump, as he and many of his peers believed that he should have won the MVP award over Jokic this past season.

Rounding out the top five of the current odds rankings are Kevin Durant and Nikola Jokic, who are tied at +1000 with Stephen Curry. Could we see a first-timer take home the award this season, or will one of the past winners reach the mountaintop again?

We will have to wait and see how things unfold during the regular season. There is a lot of talent in the NBA and young players looking to ascend to that next level during the 2022-23 campaign.
