Why New York Knicks Make This Trade

The main objective of this trade for the New York Knicks would be to clear opportunities for their young backcourt options like Immanuel Quickley and Quentin Grimes. Since Donovan Mitchell has not been traded to the team, let’s operate under the perspective of that not being their reality to solve for.

It may be challenging for Rose to garner all that much trade value, considering he’s coming off a season with just 26 appearances. He hasn’t played in at least half of his team’s games since playing for the Detroit Pistons in 2019.

Rose has struggled to stay healthy throughout his NBA career. That’s no secret. He will be 34 years old before the 2022-23 season, so it’ll only become more challenging to trust him to stay available consistently. He’s also coming off a season with his lowest averages in points (12.0) and assists (4.0) since 2017 as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Rose is signed for $14.5 million for the 2022-23 season and has a final-year team option in 2023-24. The cost for his salary isn’t favorable, but it isn’t unmovable considering that option.
