How This Trade Impacts LA Clippers
The LA Clippers entered the offseason with only one glaring need on the roster and that was to bring on another point guard. They accomplished that goal when they signed John Wall following his buyout from the Houston Rockets.
With Wall in the fold, the Clippers were at least two-deep across every position on the depth chart. They have a roster ready to contend for a title, but they could look to shore things up in the backcourt even more. If that is the route they want to take, Mike Conley Jr. makes a lot of sense.
Last season, the gunner mentality and scoring prowess is something that the Clippers needed from Reggie Jackson at the point guard spot. With Wall now in the fold, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George healthy and Norman Powell added at the deadline, they don’t need his scoring punch as much.
Swapping him for a steadier playmaker and defender at the point guard position in Conley could benefit the team. Those are two skills that they need more of and Conley would be an upgrade in that regard.

There are also replacements on the roster for Marcus Morris Sr. as well in Robert Covington and Terence Mann. Rudy Gay, who is heading to Los Angeles along with Conley, could help soak up minutes in the frontcourt as well.
The 2028 first-round pick is the last one that the Clippers will have to trade until the 2023-24 calendar begins, but if they feel this deal gets them closer to winning a title, it is worth it.
