Utah Jazz Receive: F Tobias Harris, G Tyrese Maxey, 2029 First-Round Pick (PHI)
Philadelphia 76ers Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
If a haul of first-round picks is the Utah Jazz’s asking price, the Philadelphia 76ers can count themselves out of the Donovan Mitchell sweepstakes. This club has almost none to spare.
After all, General Manager Daryl Morey has run the reserve almost entirely dry in pursuit of star players.
On the other hand, he’s had the good fortune of seeing some unexpected flashes of stardom from the 21st overall pick in the 2020 draft. If he wants to trade for another star this summer, he’ll have to move Tyrese Maxey.
Arguably, it’s not worth it. Maxey flashed enough last summer for the Philadelphia 76ers to make any GM think twice about moving him. At the same time, Mitchell has a much more extensive track record of star production. If any GM would cut ties with a budding star like Maxey to land a proven one, it’s Morey.

As for the Jazz, they could justify this deal. Given the draft capital they received in the Gobert deal, landing a 21-year-old with star potential could be worth its weight in picks to the organization.
On the other hand, if the Jazz are adamant about receiving sufficient draft compensation, they’ll prefer the next move beyond this Philadelphia 76ers deal.
