Brooklyn Nets Receive: G D’Angelo Russell
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G Kyrie Irving

The Minnesota Timberwolves are done playing around. For the first time in a very long time, they’ll enter the 2022-23 season with championship aspirations.

After all, this organization went all-in on the present when they traded three rotation players, a rookie and a whopping four unprotected first-round picks for Rudy Gobert. Many expect that moving D’Angelo Russell will be the team’s next move.

That’s largely because Russell’s performance in the 2021-22 postseason was lacking. Furthermore, with Anthony Edwards blossoming and Karl-Anthony Towns solidified as a star, it would seem sensible for the Minnesota Timberwolves to take the ball out of a lesser player’s hands.

With that in mind, most would probably prescribe a less ball-dominant player than Irving. A floor general who thrives in a low-usage role and competes on the defensive end may be a more logical acquisition for the club.

Where’s the fun in logic? The Minnesota Timberwolves are already all-in. By buying low on Irving, they’d have the potential to assemble something that, realistically, we’ve never seen in Minnesota – an NBA superteam.
