Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal

The Hawks should be able to find a good use for each of the players they’re acquiring here.

We already mentioned their summer acquisition of Dejounte Murray. That represents a large talent upgrade, but the fit is questionable. Murray’s poor spacing could make him a questionable fit alongside Trae Young in this team’s backcourt.

On the other hand, Rose is one of the best spacing point guards in the entire NBA. His off-ball gravity will provide a boost to both Murray and Young. His presence would also allow the Hawks to stagger their two star guards to the greatest possible extent.

Meanwhile, the Hawks will be hoping that Obi Toppin can replicate much of Collins’ production. Realistically, he may already be a better defender.
