Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal
We already touched on the similarities between Donovan Mitchell and Bradley Beal. As a general rule, overlapping strengths are no concern to NBA teams – overlapping weaknesses are a different matter.
Here’s the thing: Mitchell and Beal don’t have them. Granted, neither has elite floor vision. The Wizards will not have a conventional floor general in their starting backcourt following this deal. Does that matter?
We’d argue that it does not. After all, both Donovan Mitchell and Bradley Beal have displayed solid floor vision as well. Between the two, the Wizards should get enough playmaking for others to keep their system running.
It won’t be easy. There may be an adjustment period between the two. Still, being paired may force one or the other to improve their passing chops.
