The Utah Jazz have made no shortage of headlines this NBA offseason. They traded Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a major haul and could look to enter a full-scale rebuild, which would surely require trading Donovan Mitchell.
The Knicks have also made a splash of their own by clearing massive salary cap space to sign Jalen Brunson in NBA free agency. Now, they could use more firepower to further their efforts to win-now and a tremendous way of doing so would be to acquire Mitchell.
According to SNY’s Ian Begley, the reports of the Jazz not having an interest in acquiring RJ Barrett in a trade are not what he believes to be the reality. Among the factors in the conflicting reports has been the need for Barrett to soon land a contract extension.
There’s been some conflicting reports on the Utah Jazz and RJ Barrett amid the Knicks’ pursuit of Donovan Mitchell. While some reports state that the Jazz have had no in interest in Barrett, I don’t believe that is the case.
Begley also reported that the Knicks likely do not even have to include Barrett in a potential trade to acquire Mitchell from the Jazz.
It’s also worth pointing out that the Knicks probably don’t need to include Barrett in a trade.

It doesn’t come with much surprise that neither side has made much progress in trade discussions since recent reporting stated ‘no traction’ has been achieved. It was also expected for any deal to take weeks or months to ultimately transpire.
