Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
Having outlined the hardships the Nets are dealing with this summer, it shouldn’t be controversial to say that this team could use a culture reset. Who better to facilitate it than Kyle Lowry?
This deal, realistically, means they’re ready to move off of Irving at any cost. They’ll be fully aware that the package they’re getting back isn’t fair. Simply put, they’ll be content to get out of the corner they’re currently backed into.
On a short-term basis, Vincent is likely the most valuable piece they’re getting back here. He established himself as a solid 3-and-D guard/wing in 2021-22. Still, one could make the case that Lowry’s presence has nearly equal value.
For that matter, don’t rule out his ability to make an on-court impact in 2022-23. His postseason performance was severely lacking last year, but a consummate professional like Lowry could easily bounce back. Of course, the draft capital is the main reason the Nets are at the table here.
