Brooklyn Nets
Boston Celtics Receive: F Kevin Durant
Brooklyn Nets Receive: G/F Jaylen Brown, G Marcus Smart, 2025 First-Round Pick (BOS), 2027 First-Round Pick (BOS), 2029 First-Round Pick (BOS)
We figured we’d lead with the obvious.
If this deal is really on the table, both sides should have a major incentive to accept it. On the Nets’ end, they’re unlikely to receive a better player than Brown in exchange for Durant.
With their first-round picks owing to the Houston Rockets (whether outright or via swap) through to 2027, that especially counts for this club. Bottoming out is not a desirable option for the Nets.
Adding Brown and Smart will keep them competitive in 2022-23. Meanwhile, replenishing some of that lost draft capital ought to be highly desirable for the Nets as well. With all that being said, the Celtics’ incentive is even more obvious here.
LATEST NBA NEWS AND RUMORS: 3 Trades To Send Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant To Boston Celtics
They’re landing Kevin Durant. As it stands, only LeBron James would rank higher on an average All-Time list out of every active player in the NBA. If Boston is in a position to make teams choose between focusing on Durant or Jayson Tatum, they shouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger here.
On the other hand, supposing this deal falls apart, and Brown wants out, what other options might they have?
