Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal

Again, discerning Brooklyn’s priorities this summer is difficult. No team is more surrounded by mystery throughout the league at the moment. 

Regardless, we know they need draft capital. As it stands, all of their first-round picks, whether outright or via swap, are owed to the Houston Rockets through to 2027. The Nets surrendered all that future capital for their brief James Harden rental. 

Getting a first-round pick back is the key to this deal for them. It’s top 10 protected – simply put, Seth Curry is not worth an unprotected first-rounder. 

Meanwhile, acquiring Horton-Tucker may or may not suit this team. He’s got plenty of potential, but as a raw 21-year-old, he may be more suited for a rebuilding project than a win-now outfit.

With that said, we can’t rule out the possibility that the Nets resemble a rebuilding team in 2022-23.
