Donovan Mitchell
Utah Jazz Receive: F Michael Porter Jr., 2028 First-Round Pick (Swap – DEN), 2029 First-Round Pick (DEN)
Denver Nuggets Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
Your view of this deal will depend entirely on your view of Michael Porter Jr.
If you’re put off by his seemingly chronic back issues, that’s understandable. They were a concern before he was even drafted, and so far, they’ve looked to be a legitimate one.
On the other hand, modern medicine is a remarkable thing. In recent years, we’ve seen careers that felt doomed to be injury-riddled revitalized. If Porter Jr. can get his body back on track, he looks the part of a potential star.
After all, it’s not easy to find 6’10 wings who can create shots at his level. If the Jazz are optimistic about his outlook, this is a good deal for Mitchell. Yes, it’s light on draft capital, but the Jazz received four first-round picks for Rudy Gobert. If they wanted to add a 24-year-old with star potential and two first-rounders, that would be sensible as well.

Meanwhile, little justification is needed from the Nuggets’ point of view here. They’re flanking reigning MVP Nikola Jokic with one of the best backcourts in the NBA between Mitchell and Jamal Murray. That’s a winning formula.
