There have been a lot of discussions about what could happen between the Los Angeles Lakers and their starting point guard, Russell Westbrook. While all of the team’s struggles last NBA season cannot be placed on him, he did struggle to provide a positive impact on the court.

Westbrook needs to be in a specific environment to thrive and was unable to find a niche last season. He never looked comfortable, as his scoring output was his lowest since his second season in the NBA as he struggled to finish at the rim.

Efficiency wasn’t his only issue, as Westbrook was a sieve defensively as well. Providing very few positives on either end of the court, he rarely found common ground with head coach Frank Vogel.

Some of the comments he made during his exit interview and the firing of his long-time agent certainly aren’t helping his case. During a recent episode of Brian Windhorst’s podcast, there were some scathing remarks made in regards to Westbrook. Unwilling to make adjustments to his game, Westbrook’s career could very well be hanging in the balance.

Earlier this week, there was a report that should Westbrook get bought out, the Dallas Mavericks would sign him on one condition. That condition was that he would come off the bench, but based on what McMahon said, the Mavericks don’t sound like a potential landing spot in any capacity.

Things are certainly not looking up for Westbrook. If the Lakers are successful in trading him, every team that he has been linked to is reportedly going to buy him out of his contract after that.

The Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs are two teams mentioned as potential landing spots but have no use for him on the court this season, they would only make a deal for the draft compensation. The same can be said for the New York Knicks.

A report surfaced that Westbrook could be swapped for Julius Randle should Donovan Mitchell land in New York. However, the Knicks view Westbrook only as a contract, not someone they would play to help them win games.
