A full rebuild looks to be on the horizon for the Utah Jazz ahead of the 2022-23 NBA season. A roster shake-up is something that people have been expecting for a few years, and with Danny Ainge now having a prominent voice in the front office, it looks like the time has finally come.
Ainge is known for coming to a franchise and cleaning house, revamping everything from the coaching staff to the players on the roster. That has already been underway in Salt Lake City, as Quin Snyder stepped down as head coach and was replaced by Boston Celtics assistant, Will Hardy.
At the onset of free agency, the Jazz traded Royce O’Neale to the Brooklyn Nets for a 2023 first-round draft pick. Brian Windhorst went on ESPN and questioned what could be coming next, insinuating that more trades were on the horizon. He ended up being correct.
Utah traded Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for five players, four draft picks and a pick swap. While the organization said that the moves were made with an eye toward rebuilding around Donovan Mitchell, that was a facade that lasted only a few days.
The Jazz began taking calls and listening to offers for Mitchell, which led to reports of other veterans now being made available. Anyone on the roster can be had as the Jazz are looking to acquire as many draft picks and cost-controlled salaries as possible.

One player who is being shopped is point guard Mike Conley. During an appearance on Spotify Live with Marc Stein, Tony Jones of The Athletic reported that the Jazz have engaged in trade talks with other teams centered around Conley.
Those talks, however, haven’t gotten very far along as the market is pretty dry for Mike Conley. That isn’t all too surprising as Conley will be 35 when the 2022-23 season gets underway and he has lost a step or two on the court.
But, he is someone that can still help a team out with his 3-point shooting and solid playmaking skills. No longer a top-tier defender as he once was, Conley at least was still a positive performer for the Jazz last season, as their defensive rating and NetRating were both better with him on the court compared to being off of it.

Finding a landing spot for him is also difficult as the starting jobs around the league look to be secured. The Washington Wizards could use some help in the backcourt even after acquiring Monte Morris in a trade from the Denver Nuggets.
A team such as the Dallas Mavericks, who are in search of another ball handler after losing Jalen Brunson, could show some interest in Mike Conley. A young team looking to ascend to playoff contenders, such as the New Orleans Pelicans, could also benefit from having Conley on the roster.
