Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
If you hadn’t heard, the Jazz were already part of a blockbuster deal this summer. They sent longtime franchise center Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
In return, they received Jarred Vanderbilt, Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Walker Kessler, and a whopping four first-round picks. Put differently, they got three rotation players, a rookie, and a lot of draft capital.
The Jazz have been widely praised for the return, and rightfully so. With that said, nobody could argue that it made them a better team ahead of 2022-23. This trade was all about the future for the Jazz.
They ought to continue leaning in that direction. Attempting to retool around Donovan Mitchell could have them running in circles. After all, they’d be lucky to flip all of those assets for a player who’s as impactful as Rudy Gobert.

Realistically, this iteration of the Jazz has hit a ceiling. It’s over. Bringing in two more intriguing young players and another mass of draft capital is the right decision for Utah this summer.
