Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
Yes, the Dallas Mavericks will miss Dorian Finney-Smith. Here’s the rub: Harrison Barnes is also a 3-and-D wing.
He just happens to provide a little shot creation on the side. Barnes isn’t the most explosive athlete in the league, but he’s solid. He’s also a crafty offensive player who uses a number of pump fakes, head fakes, and jab steps to get to his spots.
Overall, he’s just got more juice in his offense than Finney-Smith. That counts for a lot on this Mavericks team. After all, they just lost Jalen Brunson in free agency.
That leaves them short on creators behind Luka Doncic. Sure, they have Spencer Dinwiddie. He’s a talented guard, but if he’s going to be this team’s second offensive option, they may be in trouble.

Barnes may be a little underqualified for that role too, but at least he’d give this Mavericks team a little more offensive dynamism. With Doncic being as gifted as he is, they may not need much more.
