Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics fell just short of winning their 18th Larry O’Brien Trophy in franchise history this season. They lost to the Golden State Warriors in six games after making it past the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference.

There isn’t much that needs to be done to the Celtics roster, as they have one of the strongest in the league.

Two strong additions were already made this offseason, as they acquired Malcolm Brogdon in a trade from the Indiana Pacers and then signed Danilo Gallinari after he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs by the Atlanta Hawks and subsequently waived.

More likely than not, the Boston Celtics roster is set. But, the traded player exception that they have could lead to them looking to add another upgrade to the roster. Jae Crowder could fit into that exception.

While he may not be atop their list of players to acquire, he would offer some strong depth to the team on the wing and frontcourt. If there is a weakness on this roster, it is the depth behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Crowder would help fix that, as he can play either forward spot.

The championship or bust mentality that the Celtics would be carrying is something that Crowder is used to as well. He spent 202 regular season games in Boston from 2015-2017, appearing in 28 postseason games as well.

While not the same player he was back then, Crowder is still someone the Boston Celtics can rely on in a pinch and he will be a nice upgrade for their second unit. He likely isn’t their first option, but if they cannot find another player to acquire with the exception, he makes for a solid fit.
