Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
We essentially already know how the Hornets would function with Collins. He is a very similar player to Bridges.
Of course, they’re not identical. Bridges is likely a more dynamic creator, while Collins is a more reliable floor-spacer. Still, they’re close enough that the Hornets can hope to slot Collins directly into Bridges’ previous role.
Collins may not be exactly the player the Hornets were expected to go after this year either. Most had them pegged to pursue a center.
With that said, they did draft Duke’s Mark Williams this summer. Even as a rookie, he may be ready for a low-usage starting role from day one.

Meanwhile, Collins can handle some minutes at the position too. In a way, he’s like an amalgamation of Bridges and the now-departing P.J. Washington. If the Hornets view him in the same light, they should be happy to make this deal.
