Partly, that widespread assumption is due to the team’s recent moves. The Jazz just traded Rudy Gobert for a package that was primarily focused on draft capital. It was the type of move a rebuilding franchise makes.
Sure, the Jazz got some quality players in the deal as well. Still, you’d be hard-pressed to argue that Jarred Vanderbilt, Malik Beasley, and Patrick Beverley will make this team better than Rudy Gobert in 2022-23.
Trading Donovan Mitchell feels like the move. If the Jazz agree, they’ll be officially rebuilding.
