Utah Jazz Receive: G/F Ben Simmons, G Derrick Rose, F Cam Reddish, F Obi Toppin, 2023 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2023 First-Round Pick (DAL via NYK), 2025 First-Round Pick (NYK)
Brooklyn Nets Receive: G Donovan Mitchell, G/F Evan Fournier, G Jordan Clarkson, 2027 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2028 First-Round Pick (Swap – NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: F Kevin Durant
Plenty of people have Donovan Mitchell play in New York next season. It’s just that most of them have him in the New York Knicks’ blue-and-orange.
This blockbuster has Mitchell landing on the city’s other team. It should satisfy the Nets’ mandate to stay competitive and help the Jazz along with their rebuild at the same time.
Of course, the Nets may prefer to hang onto Simmons. Unfortunately, that won’t be an option here. The CBA dictates that a team can’t acquire a player on a max rookie extension if they already have one. Both Mitchell and Simmons meet that criteria.
Still, Simmons doesn’t have the trade value that his name recognition may suggest. Questions about his reliability and mental well-being have clouded his league-wide perception.
LATEST NBA NEWS AND RUMORS: This Trade Sends Brooklyn Nets’ Kevin Durant To New York Knicks
Flipping him, alongside Durant, for a 25-year-old Mitchell, a first-round pick and a swap isn’t horrible value. Based on how things are going, it might be the best the Nets can get.
