Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
Tom Thibodeau may be prickly, but he’s also enjoyed a lengthy NBA coaching career. He must have some ability to connect with his players, or that wouldn’t be the case.
In fact, Thibs has shown a certain affinity for defensive-minded players in the past. Given that fact, we doubt he’ll have any issues with Matisse Thybulle.
Granted, he doesn’t do much on the offensive end, but when it comes to point prevention, Thybulle is already one of the league’s best. His unique blend of length, motor, lateral quickness, and court awareness makes him one of the league’s best defensive playmakers. He doesn’t always gamble, but when he does, look for it to work out.
Plus, the Knicks would be acquiring him for a player they don’t appear high on anyway. Even if Thybulle’s offensive limitations keep him short of starter minutes, his defensive acumen should keep him in Thibodeau’s rotation.
