Kevin Durant In Contact With Brooklyn Nets Amid Trade Rumors

Kevin Durant, Brooklyn Nets, NBA Trade Rumors

Former NBA MVP Kevin Durant has been a very difficult person to get a hold of recently. Since making his trade request to the Brooklyn Nets, he has essentially gone radio silent outside of a few tweets on social media.

There were also some reports that Durant hadn’t been in contact with Kyrie Irving, who he handpicked in 2019 to team up with on the Nets. After being on the same page for so long, something seems to have caused a bit of a fracture in their partnership.

While teams around the league aren’t allowed to contact him, as that would break the tampering rules put in place, players are allowed to contact each other freely. Some have tried reaching out to get an idea of what he is thinking, but Durant has not been answering them.

There hasn’t been much said from Durant or his representatives, which likely makes negotiations a little tougher. However, Durant’s silence may not carry over to the team as some people had originally believed.

According to the New York Daily News, Durant and his group have been in contact with the Nets more recently. It was confirmed he was not contacting anyone following their exit from the postseason in the first round, but that has changed more recently.

“Kevin Durant went dark after the season, as the Daily News’ Kristian Winfield reported, but a source said the future Hall of Famer and his agent Rich Kleiman have been in contact with the organization more recently.”

While the Nets are under no pressure to send Durant to a preferred destination, which would be the Phoenix Suns or Miami Heat, being in contact with him can only speed up the process. There are back channels that his agent can use to feel things out around the league so that the Nets can get a better idea of which teams are willing to step up and get close to the exorbitant asking price that Brooklyn has put on him.

Brooklyn is going to take their time, as these negotiations are delicate and will have a major impact around the league. Time is on their side, as Durant’s contract is guaranteed for four more seasons and they want to maximize their return in any deal.
