Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal
Unlike the New York Knicks, the Utah Jazz won’t have much left to work with on their roster if they trade Mitchell this summer. After all, we can assume that if Mitchell goes, a firesale will follow.
This Jazz team still has quality veterans they should be able to get value for. Mike Conley and Bojan Bogdanovic stand out as particularly appealing trade targets. If they’re moving Mitchell, expect them to start from scratch.
Sometimes, a blank slate is what’s best. General manager Danny Ainge would likely welcome the opportunity to rebuild this Jazz team from scratch. In fact, he was the architect of the Garnett and Pierce trade we mentioned earlier.
The Jazz should be happy to add Toppin and Reddish in this deal. They’re both young players with some potential in this league. Still, they’re mostly happy to be receiving draft capital here.

Between this and their Rudy Gobert trade earlier in the summer, they’ll have received quite the haul. Ideally, they’ll use it to eventually build their next contender.
