You’ve probably seen versions of this Dallas Mavericks deal before. For that matter, you’ve probably read justifications for it too. In our minds, it makes so much sense that it bears repeating.
Luka Doncic is an incredible talent. In fact, one could argue that he’s the best offensive player to enter the NBA in quite some time. He could still use a secondary ball-handler in the Mavericks’ offense, especially after Jalen Brunson’s departure from Dallas.
Meanwhile, given his prodigious floor vision, that secondary ball-handler may as well be a scorer. Doncic can handle enough facilitating for two players: he simply needs a teammate that creates offense from scratch in one way or another.
Sexton can do plenty of that. He does it relatively efficiently too. In other words, he could be perfect for this Dallas Mavericks squad.
