There have been a lot of NBA rumors swirling when it comes to Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets trading him. We have seen what the Nets are looking for in return, as their proposal to the Minnesota Timberwolves was shocking. Brooklyn asked for Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and multiple draft picks in exchange for Durant.
That is an asking price that no team in the NBA is ever going to meet. Durant remains one of the best players in the league, but a franchise isn’t going to gut their future for a player turning 34 years old in September that has appeared in only 90 games the last two regular seasons after missing the entire 2019-20 campaign.
Alas, there is no doubt that Durant would turn numerous teams in the league into title contenders should they acquire him. When his trade request was made, the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat were the only two teams mentioned as being on his list of preferred landing spots.
Both of those teams have been linked to him the most. Phoenix is seen as the favorite for him around the league, which is suppressing offers from other teams. The Heat have been the most determined trade partner, but both teams are going to need to get creative to get near Brooklyn’s asking price and engage them in negotiations.

Another team to keep an eye on in the Durant sweepstakes is the Toronto Raptors. They believe they have a trade offer that not only trumps what the Suns can offer, but will be the best one that Brooklyn will receive.
However, their negotiations with the Nets have been stuck at a standstill. Brooklyn wants Scottie Barnes Jr. to be included in the deal, while the Raptors have pretty much deemed him untouchable and he is a non-starter in trade talks.
If Toronto changes its mind and is willing to include Barnes, it sounds like the Nets would be willing to accept their offer. But, giving in during negotiations isn’t something that Masai Ujiri has ever done previously and it is hard to imagine that he will give in this time.
