The Utah Jazz are now listening to ‘overtures’ for NBA All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell after previously shutting down trade talks in the aftermath of dealing away Rudy Gobert.

Former Jazz coach Quin Snyder resigned early in the offseason after the team’s disappointing first-round exit against the Dallas Mavericks. It’s become a transition period for the Jazz after previously contending with Gobert and Mitchell as their two All-Star talents.

Gobert was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Leandro Bolmaro, Walker Kessler (No. 22 pick in 2022 Draft), Jarred Vanderbilt, 2023 first-round pick, 2025 first-round pick, 2026 pick swap, 2027 first-round pick, and 2029 first-round pick.

In any trade conversation involving Mitchell, the asking price is going to be significant. They are content with keeping him and aren’t outright shopping him, but they are wiling to move on from him if a team is willing to meet the ‘sky high’ asking price.

LATEST NBA NEWS AND RUMORS: This Trade Pairs Julius Randle, Donovan Mitchell On New York Knicks

According to Tony Jones of The Salt Lake Tribune, the New York Knicks are expected to make a quick effort to put together a trade package to acquire Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz. With no shortage of draft capital, they are positioned well to negotiate a trade.

“Expect the New York Knicks to quickly try and put together a package for Donovan Mitchell, according to league sources. Utah’s bar for Trading Mitchell is sky-high. But the Knicks are the team that has the assets to make this a conversation.”

There have been significant connections made between Mitchell and the Knicks for years. The front office is led by former CAA agent, Leon Rose, the same agency Mitchell is represented by. While that may not be enough of a reason, there surely is mutual interest.

LATEST NBA NEWS AND RUMORS: This Trade Pairs Julius Randle, Donovan Mitchell On New York Knicks

The Knicks already have made a significant roster move this offseason by signing Jalen Brunson in free agency. New York has sorely missed the presence of a stable, high-quality point guard to initiate their half-court offense and now they found one.

The Knicks’ potential currently is limited without an All-Star scorer to set the tone. Donovan Mitchell would make for a small backcourt option, but his dynamic skill-set would elevate the team in a way that would be intriguing.
