Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
Part of any calculation for the Brooklyn Nets involves the draft capital they already owe to the Houston Rockets. Unlike other teams in their position, this group has no incentive to “bottom out”.
With that in mind, they wouldn’t need to do so following this deal. Landing two high-quality players like Brown and Williams will keep them in the playoffs in the Eastern Conference at least.
In Brown, they land their first scoring option right away. That’s huge. Offensively, he’ll make for an interesting pairing with Ben Simmons (assuming Kyrie Irving is dealt separately). Simmons’ playmaking instincts should match nicely with Brown’s scoring mentality.
Speaking of Simmons, his fit with Williams isn’t as clean. Starting the two non-shooters could prove problematic for this team’s spacing. The Nets should take the talent and sort out the details later.
