Despite a majority of the NBA free agency action being done, there are still a few solid players waiting to land a new contract. One of the best players that remain unsigned on the market is restricted free agent, Collin Sexton.

The No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft was far apart in negotiations with the Cleveland Cavaliers before the deadline, so o extension got done. Unfortunately for him, he was injured after playing in only 11 games during the 2021-22 season after tearing his meniscus.

That has lowered his bargaining power, but he was still hoping to land a contract that pays about $20 million annually. While the injury couldn’t have come at a worse time, Sexton showed what he is capable of during the 2020-21 season when he averaged 23.4 points per game as a 22-year-old.

Players that can score the ball that efficiently, as Sexton got it done at every level of the court, normally aren’t made available. Alas, with the emergence of other teammates during his time sidelined, rumors swirled that he could be on his way out of Cleveland.

However, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, there just isn’t a market for Sexton, which explains why things have been slow-moving in free agency. He was linked to a few teams earlier in the offseason but they have since filled what would have been his roster spot.

The Detroit Pistons were a team reportedly interested in Sexton, but the stars aligned during the 2022 NBA Draft and they landed Purdue’s Jaden Ivey with the fifth overall pick. The Indiana Pacers were another rumored landing spot, but they sound like they are more focused on Deandre Ayton of the Phoenix Suns.

The Dallas Mavericks would seem like a natural fit following Jalen Brunson’s departure in free agency, as he signed with the New York Knicks. But, things have been quiet on that front as well, as a sign-and-trade would have to be completed.

Only 23, it is a bit surprising that Sexton’s market is so cold. There are some areas of his game that need improvement, but when you can score as effortlessly as he can, normally there will be a role for you on a team.
