Memphis Grizzlies Receive: G/F Matisse Thybulle, 2029 First-Round Pick (PHI)
Philadelphia 76ers Receive: F/C Brandon Clarke

Up until recently, we would not have entertained this move from the Memphis Grizzlies’ point of view. They could have entered 2022-23 with the same championship aspirations, and thus lack of patience for Thybulle’s development as the Sixers.

That was until Jaren Jackson Jr.’s injury.

Unfortunately, he’s slated to miss most of the season. In his absence, the Grizzlies can probably kiss their championship ambitions goodbye. With that in mind, they could treat 2022-23 as something of a gap year.

This deal would set them back in 2022-23 but could make for an improvement in the long run. For all of his shortcomings, it’s fair to say that if Thybulle developed into a passable three-point shooter, his defensive proficiency would make him a more impactful player than Clarke. Getting a first-round pick could seal the deal for the Grizzlies.

On the other hand, it’s equally fair to say that Clarke figures to make a higher impact than Thybulle in 2022-23. He’d give this 76ers roster a substantial rotational boost.
