New York Knicks Receive: G/F Ben Simmons
Brooklyn Nets Receive: F Julius Randle, G Derrick Rose
Sometimes, the best way to move a distressed asset is to swap them for…another distressed asset. That’s what Julius Randle has become for the New York Knicks.
Nobody saw that coming in 2020-21, and it’s unfortunate really. Randle was named the league’s most improved player and to the All-NBA Second-Team. He looked ready to be a Knicks cornerstone for the foreseeable future.
Unfortunately, last season, that all came to a close. Randle’s efficiency plummeted, and his trade value did the same. He spent the season fighting with teammates and coaches alike. Now, the Knicks will probably search for a new home for him.
Whether the Nets would be willing to provide it or not is a different story.

Still, a bounceback year is not out of the question. If Randle has one, he’s at least an easier player to build around than Simmons. For a team that owes most of its draft capital for the foreseeable future, that’s particularly significant.
