Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G/F Ben Simmons
Brooklyn Nets Receive: G D’Angelo Russell
Heading up to last year’s trade deadline, Ben Simmons was a popular trade target for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Having acquired Rudy Gobert, they may have lost interest.
After all, having two absolute non-shooters in the starting lineup is suboptimal for any team, and the Timberwolves would be no exception. With that said, the combined defense of the two could be enough to compensate.
Imagine having to score on this Timberwolves team with Simmons at the point of attack, with Gobert waiting on the backline? Surely, they’d be zigging where the league zagged, but this defense may make up for their combined lack of shooting.
Furthermore, the Wolves can bump Karl-Anthony Towns back to his former 5 spot when the floor gets too cramped. They may be uniquely qualified to support an unorthodox Simmons/Gobert pairing.
