New York Knicks Receive: F Kevin Durant, G Seth Curry

As the adage goes, never say never. However, when it comes to a trade occurring between the Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks, you can probably say this will never happen.

A list of things that will likely occur before Sean Marks and the Nets trade Durant to the Knicks is someone picking a perfect NCAA Tournament Bracket, a team getting shutout in an NBA game and a team going undefeated throughout a regular season and postseason in the NBA.

If there were a team that had virtually zero chance of acquiring Durant in the league, the Knicks would come closest. But, for argument’s sake, let’s take a look at the kind of offer that New York could put together.

Brooklyn would likely require RJ Barrett to be included, but to avoid that, New York overloads the Nets with draft picks. The Knicks send six first-round draft picks across the river, something they are only able to do because they have done a great job compiling draft capital under Leon Rose.

Looking to remain competitive, the Nets are receiving Julius Randle, who is one season removed from being an All-Star and All-NBA Second Team. Evan Fournier broke the record for most 3-pointers in a single season in franchise history.

Cam Reddish is oozing with potential but has not yet had a consistent opportunity to showcase it either with the Hawks or Knicks. Immanuel Quickley has blown away expectations since being selected in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft. They provide Brooklyn with two high-upside young players for their next core.

As for the Knicks, they would have that star they have been chasing since Carmelo Anthony donned the jersey and Patrick Ewing before him. They would hope that Barrett can ascend to that All-Star level and Jalen Brunson can be an excellent third option.

Brunson, Barrett, Durant, Obi Toppin and Mitchell Robinson are a formidable starting five. Derrick Rose, Quentin Grimes, Seth Curry and Isaiah Hartenstein are a solid quartet off the bench, as any other holes can be filled by ring-chasing veterans.
