Charlotte Hornets Receive: G Russell Westbrook, 2026 First-Round Pick (Swap – LAL), 2027 First-Round Pick (LAL)
Brooklyn Nets Receive: F Gordon Hayward, G Terry Rozier, 2029 First-Round Pick (LAL)
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: G Kyrie Irving
We already told you Russell Westbrook’s value has declined. Unfortunately for the Los Angeles Lakers, if they want an All-Star in return, they’ll have to attach sweeteners.
This deal has them parting with two first-round pick and a swap to move on from him. In fact, that may not even be enough in some circumstances. With that said, a trade partner that’s motivated to take back an expiring contract could be interested.
The Hornets might be one such partner. This team underperformed in 2021-22. This summer, they’d be well served to move on from their veterans and acquire more future-focused assets. A first-round pick and a swap is good value for them, especially when they’re getting off of two long-term contracts.
Meanwhile, the Nets have a problematic point guard of their own to shed. With that said, Kyrie Irving’s shortcomings are exclusively off the court. When he does take the floor, he looks every bit the superstar.
