Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
The Chicago Bulls will miss having a big man who spaces the floor. Even if Nikola Vucevic was inaccurate last season, the threat of his jumper still creates space for Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan.
Furthermore, DeRozan is maximized similarly to Simmons. He’s not a non-shooter in the same fashion, but he’s not known for his three-ball. Can the Bulls part with Vucevic?
Yes. These Bulls need rim protection more than floor-spacing at the 5. Unlike Simmons, DeRozan is at least willing to launch from distance in the flow of an offense. The point is, he’s not a non-shooter. The Bulls could afford to have one on the floor at the 5 spot for that reason.
They’d need to find a replacement for Vooch in a separate deal. In the meantime, they’ll enjoy the added shooting that Joe Harris and Seth Curry bring to the table. With a rim protector and two knockdown shooting threats, they should be better in 2022-23.

Of course, we can’t say the same for the Knicks if they do lose Durant and Irving. Still, a bounceback year from Vucevic would at least minimize the loss.
