Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal
In all likelihood, no. The Indiana Pacers probably won’t make this trade. With that said, it isn’t unthinkable either.
The Pacers would probably need a two-year plan in order to justify this deal. Swapping Haliburton and Hield for Durant does not turn this team into a contender. With that said, it does make them much closer to being one.
Following this deal, the Pacers would be comprised of Durant, Myles Turner, and a mishmash of mediocre veterans on small deals and intriguing young players. In other words, they wouldn’t be done making moves.
They’d likely attract a major free agent or two ahead of 2023-23. Furthermore, they’d have ample cap space to make room for them. Furthermore, they’d probably also be looking to package recent lottery pick Bennedict Mathurin with their remaining draft capital to land another star.
